St Patrick’s High School in Keady dazzled audiences this week with a vibrant and spirited production of Matilda, bringing Roald Dahl’s beloved story to life with remarkable talent, professionalism, and heart.
The performance—featuring more than 80 pupils from Years 8 to 14—captured the energy, humour, and emotion of the celebrated musical, leaving the packed audience in awe.
Principal, Mrs McKenna praised the cast and crew, describing the school’s show as “renowned for talent, professionalism, and something truly unique,” adding with pride, “We do it better!”
While the lights, music, and choreography captivated the audience, the true magic of the production extended far beyond the stage.
Over months of rehearsals, students developed essential life skills—resilience, teamwork, problem-solving, confidence, and courage.
“These young people have learned lessons that will carry them in all aspects of life,” she said.
The production was a testament to the strength of the St Patrick’s school community. Staff from across the school played crucial roles—from set design and choreography to front-of-house organisation and technical support.
“Our staff create an environment where students feel safe to take risks, grow, and shine,” the Principal remarked. “Their dedication makes our school feel like a true family.”
The Principal also extended heartfelt thanks to families who supported the students throughout the rehearsal period. It was acknowledged that many households endured the Matilda soundtrack “on repeat for months,” adding, “I’m sure you agree it was worth it.”
Mrs Trainor’s, portrayal of Miss Trunchbull delighted the audience it was bold and unforgettable.
“She embraced the role better than we could ever have dreamed,” said the Principal.
Miss Honey was played beautifully by Saoirse O’Hare and Isla King managed to cleverly show the naughty and vulnerable of sides of the character of Matilda.
Maeve Keenan and Emilis Jakubenas were the perfect duo for Mr and Mrs Wormwood. Many of the staff joined the children’s world making brief but amusing cameo roles.
The show was produced by Ms Burns McCoy and Ms McCurry, together they guided the entire project with passion and perseverance. From late-night rehearsals to the pressure of opening night, their commitment ensured the show’s spectacular success. Their vision and heart are the reason this ‘revolt’ was such a triumph.
The show created memories students will carry for life. They will never forget how it felt to be part of this very special team.
