Reckless ‘lunatics’ tear up community green in Keady

An SDLP councillor has condemned the “lunatics” responsible after a car was driven across a shared green space in Crossmore Green in Keady, causing significant damage.

Councillor Thomas O’Hanlon said the incident, which happened on Friday night, was “reckless, irresponsible and completely unacceptable”.

“Thanks to the lunatics who drove their car through the ‘Green’ in Crossmore Green, Keady last night. It wasn’t funny or smart, it was reckless, irresponsible and completely unacceptable,” he said.

“Driving through the grassed area shows a total disregard for safety and for a shared community space.

“While there may not be as many young children living in the ‘Green’ as there once were, those who do live there, and the grandchildren who regularly visit their grandparents, value this space to play football, run about and enjoy the open air.”

Cllr O’Hanlon said residents who contacted him were “understandably furious”.

“This behaviour was dangerous and could very easily have resulted in someone being seriously hurt,” he added.

The councillor has raised the matter with the Housing Executive’s Grounds Maintenance Team and has asked that the damaged area be repaired and reinstated “as quickly as possible”.
