Police in Mid Ulster have seized 40 rockets after the stop and search of a car where a teen was seen throwing a firework from the window.
Around 8.45pm on Saturday October 17, officers stopped and searched the vehicle after they observed a firework being thrown from it while moving, on the Dungannon Road in Ballygawley.
Three 17-year-old boys were subsequently cautioned on suspicion of a number of firework- related offences – alongside motoring offences for the boy in the driving seat – and the investigation is continuing.
A police spokesperson said: “The law is very clear regarding the use of fireworks. If you are found breaking the law, you could be fined up to £5,000.
“We also want to remind you of the dangers of fireworks: they are made from explosive material and, if misused, can cause serious and life-changing injuries.
“We would ask parents and guardians to speak to their young people about these dangers, and to make them aware of the consequences if they choose to engage in such behaviour.
“Anyone with information on the use or storage of illegal fireworks can contact us on 101.
“Alternatively, you can submit a report online using our non-emergency reporting form via http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/.
