Two women were tied up and another man beaten with a bat in a terrifying burglary in county Armagh.
Three masked men entered a house in the Carrive Road area of Silverbridge at around 9.45pm on Wednesday night.
Two women and a man who were in the property at the time were tied up during the ordeal.
The man was beaten with a wooden bat and sustained injuries to his legs.
The gang demanded money but left empty handed.
Detective Constable McCartan said: “The man’s injuries are not believed to be life changing at this time. While the two females were not physically injured, they have been left shaken by the ordeal.
“This was a savage attack on this man, and a frightening ordeal for the three occupants of the house.”
“I am appealing for anyone who was in the Carrive Road area of Silverbridge on Wednesday night and who may have noticed any suspicious activity, or anyone who knows anything about this incident, to contact detectives in Ardmore on the non emergency number 101, quoting reference 277 of 26/10/17.
“Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
Local Sinn Fein Councillor Mickey Larkin slammed those responsible.
He said: “This was a very frightening experience for the householder and I condemn those who invaded a family home issuing threats and assaulting those present. It was a despicable act and those involved need to be caught and brought to justice.
“I would encourage anyone who has information relating to this crime to come forward to either the police or myself. These criminals cannot be allowed to operate with impunity. This community has suffered to much in the past and will not be terrorised by thugs who are only interested in lining their own pockets.”
