Man accused of driving whilst disqualified to face Crown Court due to ‘extent of his record’

The defendant was released on continuing bail to appear before Newry Crown Court

A south Armagh man accused of driving whilst disqualified will face Crown Court proceedings due to the “extent” of his record

Finbar Stephen Maguire, 31, of McGraths Terrace in Whitecross, stood charged with using a motor vehicle without insurance and driving whilst disqualified at Newry Magistrates’, sitting at Lisburn, on Wednesday.

At a previous court hearing, prosecution stated the case “was to be sent to the Crown Court due to the extent of this defendant’s record”.

As the charges were read out, it was outlined that all of the alleged offences occurred on June 12, of last year, on Rathkeelan Park in Crossmaglen.

Appearing via videolink, Maguire made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.

Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.

Defence solicitor Gerard Trainor made no contrary submissions.

The defendant was released on continuing bail to appear before Newry Crown Court for a date to be fixed.
