Culloville Road Crossmaglen

A huge mixed-use economic development – including business units and offices – is being planned in Crossmaglen.

The development – expected to represent a significant investment – could bring a major jobs boost to the south Armagh area when up and running.

It will,  that is, if Newry, Mourne and Down District Council gives its blessing.

A pre-application notice has been lodged, which indicates that the proposals fall within the ‘major’ category of development.

The applicant is Michael McArdle, and he has earmarked a site on lands adjacent to 59 Culloville Road.

He hopes to construct a range of purpose-built units, for businesses and office accommodation, as well as light industrial and storage units.

It would offer tenants, collectively, anywhere up to 80,000 sq ft in floorspace.

It is expected a significant number of jobs could be created when the various units are let to tenants, as well as a boost to the local construction industry too.

The plans also include a small housing development, consisting of a total of six properties.

Letters are being sent to residents living in close proximity to the proposed site.

And a public information event will be held at Crossmaglen Rangers’ clubrooms on the Dundalk Road later this month.

Mr McArdle will use feedback to shape firm proposals before submitting an official application seeking full planning approval.
