Young Crossmaglen man passes away in Australia just months after 21st birthday

The Crossmaglen community has been left devastated following the sudden and untimely passing of a much-loved young man who was deeply involved with his local GAA club.

Cross Rangers paid tribute to 21-year-old Oran Marron, who passed away following a short illness in Australia, having moved to Perth earlier this year.

From an early age, Oran proudly donned the famous black and amber of the club.

In a heartfelt message, the club remembered him as “a great teammate and friend,” adding that “his jolly nature and beautiful smile will be forever remembered.”

Above all, Oran was remembered as a devoted son to his mother Jacqueline, with the club saying the pair were “two peas in a pod.”

He was also a much-loved grandson to P.J. and Stacia, and nephew to Martin and Amanda. The wider Marron and Martin families have been held in the community’s thoughts and prayers since news of his illness first emerged.

Tragically, Oran’s passing is the second death of a young club member in little over a year.

His friend and teammate, Caolan Finnegan, died last year after his battle with brain cancer.

The club extended its sympathy to Oran’s friends, who are mourning the loss of “another shining light so soon after Caolan,” urging them to find comfort in the memories and happy times they shared.

The tribute concluded with a poignant message: “Oran, look after your Mammy and give her strength. Rest in peace Oran.”

Oran’s mother, Jacqueline, posting a heartbreaking message on social media, wrote:
“For all of his 21 years, he was deeply loved — the light of my life, full of laughter, kindness, and mischief. Life will never be the same without him.

“Now it’s time to take our final journey home, from Perth to Crossmaglen, carrying him with me every step of the way.

“I’ll love you forever Oran. Being your Mammy was the greatest gift of my life. Always my angel.”
