A motorist caught drink driving in the Richhill area during the early hours of a Sunday morning has been banned from the roads for a year and fined £185.
Jordan Finlay (24), of Pinewood Drive, Richhill, was at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
A police patrol stopped the vehicle on November 16 and there was a “strong smell of intoxicating liquor” and the defendant had glazed eyes.
The defendant had an alcohol in breath reading of 46mcgs – the legal limit is 35mcgs.
A defence lawyer said the defendant had cider and after stopping drinking at 9pm friends had later asked to be driven home and he “foolishly” agreed, thinking he would be OK.
Sentencing the defendant, District Judge Michael Ranaghan told him: “You tried to do your friends a favour but it is going to cost you dearly.”
