Move ‘to communicate with dog owners’ as planning starts on Hallowe’en fireworks at Craigavon

Activities will run throughout the day in Rushmere and South Lake Leisure Centre will close at 3pm on the day of the fireworks

Plans are already underway for ABC Council’s now annual Hallowe’en fireworks display.

The date has been confirmed for the spectacle, which will take place on Thursday, October 30.

And, ahead of that, councillors have been told that officers are working with the environmental health department to “communicate with dog owners” ahead of the planned event.

Discussions will also be taking place with the PSNI around parking.

An update on plans has been given to the council’s community and wellbeing committee.

Activities will run throughout the day in Rushmere Shopping Centre with the fireworks display starting at 7.30pm.

The Hallowe’en festivities, councillors have been told, have been running for more than 25 years it is now “well established as a prestigious community-based event”.

The South Lake Leisure Centre will close to the public at 3pm that day, with the car park shut at 4pm to allow for setting up and briefing of the event team.

There will be a limited number of disabled parking spaces at both South Lake Leisure Centre and Craigavon Civic Centre.Residents will have to apply for a pass at the Civic Centre by a date yet to be confirmed.

“Maps and information have been created to remind the public of best practices and guidelines around parking to ensure the event has as little an impact on local residents as possible,” a report to committee states.

Meanwhile, a competition – similar to last year – will be held nearer the time to win a VIP experience in the health and wellbeing suite to watch the fireworks.
