Craigavon Court

A Kilmore man who is accused of cultivating 61 cannabis plants in an industrial estate will face Crown Court proceedings.

The 49-year-old is alleged to have committed the offence back in October 5, 2016, at Annagh Industrial Estate in Portadown.

Robert Walter Cairns, 49, of Kilmore Meadows, appeared charged with cultivating cannabis and dishonestly using electricity at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court.

As the charges were read, it was heard that the alleged offence occurred on October 5, 2016. The defendant was accused of cultivating 61 cannabis plants at Annagh Industrial Estate, Portadown.

Standing in the dock, Cairns made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.

Prosecution submitted that based on the papers that were before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.

Defence solicitor Gabriel Ingram made no contrary submissions.

District Judge Steven Keown stated that he was satisfied there was a prima facie case.

The defendant was released on his own bail of £500, to appear at Craigavon Crown Court on May 12 for arraignment.
