Interim driving ban for R driver clocked at 109mph on M1 after family member admitted to hospital
Defendant was not in court as the judge said: 'It is really up to him to get himself here as quickly as possible because that may shorten his disqualification'
An R driver who hit a speed of 109mph whilst "urgently" on his way to a hospital after being told a family member had been admitted, has received an interim driving ban.
Donal Kerr (19), of Summerhill Gardens, Dunmurry, also had no R plates displayed on a Seat Leon when detected on the M1 motorway near Portadown on Sunday July 27 this year.
The defendant was not in attendance at Craigavon Magistrates' Court on Friday.
A defence lawyer said the defendant, who had previously entered a guilty plea, had no record.
Deputy District Judge Chris Holmes said: "He is disqualified as of now because there is no way any judge is going to hear this case - 109 on R plates - and not disqualify him."
He put an interim driving ban in place and adjourned the case to December 5.
The judge added: "It is really up to him to get himself here as quickly as possible because that may shorten his disqualification"....
