Former fighter pilot Mandy Hickson set to get Enterprise Week off to a flying start

Mandy Hickson

Former fighter pilot Mandy Hickson will share her top tips on resilience and adaptability as part of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council’s upcoming Enterprise Week.

‘Excelling in Adversity’ is the first webinar in a series of free events to mark Global Entrepreneurship Week, which is taking place between Monday 16 and Friday 20 November.

Mandy Hickson was the only female pilot on her Front-Line Tornado Squadron, flying multimillion-pound jets for the Royal Air Force. She has operated in hostile environments, including patrolling the ‘no fly’ zone over Iraq.

Drawing on her experience of calculated risk-taking, decision-making under pressure and the critical role of the human in the system, she transfers vivid lessons from the cockpit to the world of business.

Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Councillor Kevin Savage, said: “We are delighted to virtually welcome Mandy Hickson as part of our Enterprise Week 2020 programme.

“She has been invited to share her insights with some of the most successful global businesses and she will describe the strategies, tactics and behaviours that she adopted when the odds were stacked against her. We hope business owners and entrepreneurs will be inspired by what she has to share and draw positive lessons from her webinar.”

This webinar is part of a week-long programme that will see a daily inspirational and enterprising event take place online in keeping with the current Coronavirus restrictions.

On Tuesday 17 November, ‘Making your Business Stand Out Online’, hosted by the Digial 24 team, will run a webinar from 10.30am-12noon, giving top tops to use when marketing goods and services on online platforms including social media.

The Lord Mayor continued: “This year has been so difficult for so many but we are aware of a lot of businesses who have upskilled their digital knowledge and have applied the learning to the benefit of their business.

“We are delighted to virtually host the experts from Digital 24 to share some of their knowledge and give companies some really useful top tips on getting found online and standing out in all the noise.”

Organised by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council and sponsored by Fibrus Broadband, Enterprise Week is being delivered by local enterprise agencies including CIDO Ltd, Banbridge District Enterprise Ltd, Mayfair Business Centre, Armagh Business Centre and Brownlow Ltd.
