Five ‘bricks and mortar’ amenity buildings and kids’ play area detailed in fresh plans for fully-serviced Travellers site

The Housing Executive's planned Craigavon development will see the demolition of eight steel 'pods' and construction of five permanent structures, each comprising a kitchen and dining area, bathroom, utility room, lobby and store

Traveller site in Craigavon

A fully-serviced site for members of the Travelling Community – with five permanent amenity buildings – is being planned for Craigavon.

Proposals have been drawn up by Northern Ireland Housing Executive and placed before Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.

The site is located 45 metres from Moylinn House resource centre, and on “lands approximately 100metres east of 201 Legahory Court”.

The proposals are to demolish eight steel amenity ‘pod’ buildings currently on site.

In their place, five new permanent ‘Traveller service sites’ would be created – complete with five permanent amenity buildings, constructed of brick with concrete roof tiles and uPVC double-glazed windows.

Each amenity building would include a kitchen and dining area, bathroom, utility room, lobby and store.

And each of the areas would have room for a static caravan and two car parking spaces.

There are also plans for a new children’s play area within the facility, as well as two additional parking spaces for visitors, street lighting and bin storage facilities.

The site will be surrounded by a brick wall with fencing too, and trees planted around the boundary.

The existing south and east site boundaries would be extended to provide additional space to facilitate the plans. The existing site access will be retained, and a speed ramp in place, with plans also including the “formation of new internal roads, hardstandings and boundaries”.

The proposals will now be advertised shortly.
