‘Deep concerns’ over return of anti-social behaviour at Derrytrasna beauty spot

Concerns have been raised over the return of anti-social behaviour at a natural beauty spot in Derrytrasna.

Sinn Féin Councillor Catherine Nelson says the tranquillity at Bayshore Park is being disrupted by “reckless and inconsiderate behaviour”.

She emphasised the importance of preserving this cherished local beauty spot for the enjoyment and well-being of all residents.

Cllr Nelson said: “The Bayshore is one of the most treasured natural amenities—a place where families, walkers, and nature enthusiasts come to relax and unwind. It is unacceptable that its tranquillity is being disrupted by reckless and inconsiderate behaviour.

“We have received multiple reports of groups of vehicles congregating late into the night, engaging in activities such as honking horns, flashing lights, and dangerous driving manoeuvres within the car park. These actions not only disturb the peace but also pose significant safety risks to others.”

Councillor Nelson says she has coordinated with the PSNI and community safety wardens to implement targeted patrols during identified peak times.

“This proactive approach,” she says “aims to deter such activities and ensure the area remains safe and welcoming for all.”

She added: “I urge residents to document any incidents they witness—recording dates, times, vehicle registrations—and report them directly to the PSNI.

“We all have a role to play in safeguarding our community spaces. Let’s work together to ensure the Bayshore remains a peaceful and enjoyable environment for everyone.”
