Craigavon’s landmark Legahory bridge to be demolished in interests of public safety

"We will continue to lobby DfI to ensure this bridge is rebuilt given the vital connection it provides to local communities."

The Legahory bridge in Craigavon is to be demolished in the interests of public health and safety.

Work to remove the local footbridge and landmark is to take place next month.

Sinn Féin Craigavon representative Jude Mallon confirmed the planned works.

He said: “Councillor Catherine Nelson and I have been in touch with the Department for Infrastructure regards local concerns that the footbridge between Legahory and the Lakes is to be demolished over St Patrick’s weekend.

“DfI have reported serious concerns about the structural safety of this bridge.

“A temporary path will be put in place while works progress and we will map this out when in place.

“We will continue to lobby DfI to ensure this bridge is rebuilt given the vital connection it provides to local communities.”
