A judge said a Craigavon man who had stolen two bottles of Buckfast from a bar had then gone on a “rampage of gratuitous violence”, lobbing a concrete slab through a car windscreen and biting and spitting at police.
Jamie Lee Harvey, of Drumbeg, committed offences on December 10/11 last year.
The 24-year-old admitted stealing two bottles of Buckfast from ‘The Stables’ bar in Lurgan and causing criminal damage to three flowerpots and a window at the pub.
He also admitted assaulting a police officer occasioning him actual bodily harm and assaulting three other officers.
He had charges including assault of a female and possession of a pole as an offensive weapon withdrawn.
A previous court was told he was allegedly clutching a metal pole whilst chasing a nine-year-old girl in Lurgan.
The defendant appeared, on Friday, at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court via video link from prison where he had been on remand since the time of the offences.
Following the Buckfast theft police identified Harvey on CCTV. Later the defendant had thrown a concrete slab through the windscreen of a vehicle.
When arrested Harvey assaulted four police officers. He was “spiting, kicking and punching”. He bit one PSNI officer on the hand who had to take time off work due to his injuries.
A defence barrister said at the time of the offences the defendant was “labouring under an addiction” to drink.
He had a “poor record”.
Deputy District Judge Gerard Trainor said: “This was a rampage of gratuitous violence both to property and to persons” and handed down a four months prison term.
