Craigavon man accused of 14 counts of theft has case adjourned to deal with ‘family emergency’

Craigavon Magistrates Court

A man accused of 14 counts of theft from a Eurospar in the Lurgan area has had his case adjourned to deal with a “family emergency”.

Requesting the adjournment, defence counsel for the accused, Andrew Yat Cheung Fan, said he couldn’t be in court as he had to fly to Birmingham on a family emergency.

Fan (67) – with an address of Hillcrest, Craigavon – is accused of having engaged in a shoplifting spree where losses to the business amounted to over £228 and included a number of various grocery items and Sellotape, of unknown value.

Charge sheets indicate the alleged offences to have taken place from November 17 to December 6, 2025 from a Eurospar shop on the Gilpinstown Road.

His defence counsel reassured the court the matter would be dealt with promptly, adding: “We have one week, this is going to be disposed of in one week.”

District Judge Mark Hamill warned: “He needs to be here!”

The defendant is now set to appear before Craigavon Magistrates Court on April 15.
