A body has been recovered from Lough Neagh following a major multi-agency search operation after reports of a person in the water on Thursday afternoon.
Lough Neagh Rescue said its lifeboats were tasked by Belfast Coastguard at 1.28pm to the Gawley’s Gate / Bartins Bay area, on the south-western shore of the lough.
Crews from Lough Neagh Rescue carried out a detailed search alongside HM Coastguard assets, including Rescue 116 from Bristow Helicopters in Dublin and the Lough Neagh Coastguard Rescue Team.
During the course of the operation, a body was recovered from the water.
In a statement, Lough Neagh Rescue said: “At 13:28 today, our lifeboats were tasked by Belfast Coastguard to reports of a person in the water in the Gawleys Gate / Bartens Bay area.
“During the search, a body was recovered from the water.
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased at this very difficult time.
“We would like to thank all agencies involved for their assistance and professionalism throughout the operation.”
The callout followed earlier reports of a missing jet-skier on the lough.
Police confirmed they received a report at approximately 1.20pm of a person believed to be in the water in the Derryola Bridge Road area of Craigavon.
No further details have been released at this stage.
