Anti-social behaviour threatens future of Brownlow Hub

Brownlow Hub

The future of the Brownlow Hub in Craigavon has been brought into question due to the escalation in anti-social behaviour.

Recent months has seen the number of incidents reported increase at a worrying rate.

This week, Sinn Féin MLA John O’Dowd has issued the warning, stating that the anti-social behaviour risks the closure of Brownlow Hub altogether.

“Brownlow Hub was a much fought for community resource,” he said. “Sadly in recent months young people from our own community have vandalised both the building itself and the adjacent playpark.

“Staff have been intimidated with young people entering the hub in large groups and engaging in anti-social acts.

“Councillor Catherine Nelson has met with hub staff recently and we are working with council officers to secure the premise.

“This will include enhanced CCTV so as we can catch those involved to ensure they face the full weight of the law. This will have lifelong impacts on those caught.

“If this continues council will have no choice but to close the facility.

“I would appeal to parents to speak to their young people to ensure they are not making up numbers in the crowds involved. To those behind this – you should desist immediately. Do not be responsible for shutting down much needed services in your own area.”
