When it comes to dedication there’s no-one quite like Dáithí!
For the seven-year-old Mountnorris schoolboy put his best foot forward to raise money during the weekend’s Darkness Into Light walk in Bessbrook.
A pupil at St Teresa’s Primary School, Tullyherron, Dáithí Traynor-Evans has made his family so proud.
“For a wee autistic boy at seven years old to get up at three o’clock in the morning and do that, I think it’s just amazing,” said delighted grandmother, Libby Fields.
Dáithí collected money in memory of his great grandfather, Peter McAleavey, with family and friends more than happy to dig deep to help.
The walk in Bessbrook, which began at 4.15am, saw participants gather and step out in aid of PIPS Hope and Support.
Dáithí was accompanied by mum Jessica Traynor, dad Ryan Evans and his great grandmother, Ivy McAleavey.
Said Granny Libby: “He has raised well over £700 now. We’re immensely proud. Honestly, I just can’t believe it. I’m just so overwhelmed with proudness because he’s such a great wee man.”
The Darkness Into Light event at Derramore Woods proved a great success once again, raising money in support of the suicide awareness charity.
The organisers took to social media to thank all those like Dáithí who had taken part.
They said: “Another great community walk in the beautiful surroundings of Derrymore. Huge thanks to the body of volunteers who give of their time year in year out helping make sure this is a safe and enjoyable event to ensure the legal restrictions on us are complied with.
“On the day we have up on 40 volunteers with us in a variety of roles. This is what community is about.
“I have always struggled to find a word to describe Darkness into Light and do it justice but I finally have it. ‘MELIORISM’, the quiet yet unwavering belief that the world, despite its flaws and struggles, can be made better through human effort, kindness and wisdom.
“It is the soft glow of Hope in the darkest of moments. The Faith that every act of goodness ripples outwards shaping a future brighter than the past.
“Thank-you to each and every one of you.”
A huge well done to Dáithí and all those who took part!
