A young south Armagh musician has reached new heights in her budding music career as she jets off to London this week to record two songs in Audio Haus Studios.

The Lislea-born schoolgirl, who is a Year 9 pupil at St Paul’s High School in Bessbrook, competed last year in the UK-wide singing contest, TeenStar, for the chance to receive one-on-one mentoring from music and entertainment industry heavyweights such as Carrie Grant and Julie Miles.

Beating over 1,000 other contestants to the top through a public online vote, Niamh will now set her sights on London to record her music at the famous Wembley recording studios that have welcomed the likes of Jess Glynn, Sugababes and The Stone Roses.

Niamh will record two self-penned songs, ‘Missing You’ and ‘Friendships’, having spent months preparing with her vocal coach, Fiona Flynn, her harp teacher, Dearbhla Bennett and her music accompanist, Danny O’Neill.

On her return, Niamh will release both tracks, with proceeds going to the Cancer Fund for Children.

Niamh said: “I’m very excited to be heading to London this week to record my songs. I’ve worked very hard and I’m very grateful to all my mentors for helping me.

“I can’t wait for everyone to hear ‘Missing You’ and ‘Friendships’ – I hope you love them as much as I do!”

Speaking on her daughter’s achievements, Deirde Noade, added: “We’re so proud of what Niamh has accomplished so far. She’s an incredibly talented young girl and we can’t wait to see where this journey takes her.”

Upon hearing Niamh’s rendition of ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon in the TeenStar final in November of last year, the industry judges praised the performance as “hypnotic” and assured that Niamh was “going to have a career” in the music industry.
