There have been fresh calls for the public to stop up and report anyone seen fly-tipping after the most recent incidents in south Armagh.
Bin bags and all manner of household waste have been dumped without thought or consideration in the Bessbrook and Craigmore areas.
Local Ulster Unionist Councillor David Taylor has expressed his anger, adding: “The scourge of fly-tipping continues to plague our district.”
He said he had reported the latest incidents over the past few days where “substantial amounts of material and rubbish were dumped on roadside verges”.
And Councillor Taylor added: “This is in addition to various other incidents I have reported in the local area in recent times.
“This illegal activity not only causes significant harm to our environment, but also blights our local landscape.
“The cost of clearing this waste is ultimately borne by local ratepayers and this is money that could and should be better spent improving our community.”
Councillor Taylor believes wants everyone to play their part in working to combat such actions.
He said: “Whilst there are penalties in place for anyone caught carrying out this type of activity, it is deeply frustrating that they don’t seem to act as a necessary deterrent.
“I would appeal to anyone who witnesses any dumping taking place to report it to the council. With the help of the public we can work to try reduce and eliminate this damaging practice from our area.”
