Man accused of human trafficking and prostitution offences

A man has appeared in court charged with offences linked to prostitution and human trafficking.

Court heard the 57-year-old was refused bail at Lisburn Magistrates’ on October 21.

Martin Heaney, from Maypole Park in Dromore, appeared facing three counts of human trafficking, three counts of controlling prostitution, acquiring criminal property, paying for sexual services and brothel keeping at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, via videolink from Maghaberry.

The prostitution and human trafficking offences are alleged to have involved three separate women.

Heaney is  also accused of acquiring criminal property worth £139,000.

Defence barrister Peter Coiley stated that he was unsure as to why the matter had been listed and informed the court that bail for the defendant had been refused at Lisburn Magistrates’ on October 21.

Prosecution said that a full file in the case was expected on November 13.

Heaney was remanded in custody as the case was adjourned until November 22 for full file and possible decision.
