The owners of one of the borough’s most popular restaurants have bade their valued customers a fond farewell as they head into retirement.
Margaret and PJ -who have owned the famous The Seven Stars restaurant in Loughbrickland for more than 40 years – are set to hand over the reins of the business at the end of this month.
The business was placed on the market for sale as a going concern back in January of this year – and according to the departing owners it has now been snapped up, ensuring its continued service for the foreseeable future.
Making the announcement on social media, the family addressed their valued customer-base, saying: “We want to thank you for your loyalty, support, and many wonderful memories over the 40+ years we have been at the Seven Stars.
“Our restaurant and bar has officially closed under our current ownership as of October.
“We’re excited to share that the location will soon be reopening under new ownership.”
In high praise of the business’ new owners, they added: “We’re confident the new team will continue to bring great food, drinks, and hospitality to our community.”
Bidding a final and fond farewell, they said: “It has been our absolute pleasure to serve you — from casual meals to celebrations, we’ve cherished every moment shared with you.
“With heartfelt thanks and appreciation, PJ, Margaret and Family plus all our valued members of staff we have had over the years.”
Recognising their “lifetime of dedication”, The Whistledown Hotel in Warrenpoint – where there is a familial link to The Seven Stars – wished the family every success for the future.
In a statement online, the popular boutique hotel’s owners Colum and Sarah said: “Congratulations to Colum’s Auntie Meg and Uncle P.J. on their retirement and on an incredible 40+ years in hospitality.
“Your dedication, warmth and professionalism have left a lasting impression on everyone who’s had the privilege of working with you.”
The pair also praised the publicans for the part they played in helping them establish themselves in the industry all those years ago: “We will always be especially grateful for the opportunity you gave us back in 1990 at The Seven Stars in Loughbrickland when we rented your premises for four years which was the beginning of our own hospitality journey and ultimately led to the creation of The Whistledown Hotel.
“Your passion for people and your commitment to excellence have inspired us every step of the way. Wishing you every happiness, good health and beautiful new adventures in your well earned retirement and continued success to the new owners.”
