Eight calves have died after a fire broke out in a farm shed on the outskirts of Gilford on Sunday night.
Firefighters were called to the scene in the Banbridge Road area shortly before 8pm.
Crews from Banbridge Fire Station, along with the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service’s Specialist Animal Rescue Team based in Newcastle, attended the incident.
On arrival, firefighters were able to rescue nine calves from the shed, but eight later died as a result of the blaze.
A NIFRS spokesperson said crews used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.
“The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental ignition, and firefighters left the incident at 8.38pm,” the spokesperson added.
