Devastation following death of little boy in road traffic collision

A young boy has died following a road traffic collision on the outskirts of Banbridge on Saturday evening.

The incident happened on the Aughnacloy Road at The Corbet near Banbridge at around 6.30pm.

Paramedics and the Air Ambulance were sent to the scene along with the Fire Service.

The road was closed – and remains closed – as a result.

Those involved were taken to the Royal in Belfast and Craigavon Area Hospital, however, it is understood there has been at least one tragic fatality.

DUP MLA Carla Lockhart, commenting last night, said: “Devastating news for a family tonight following the death of a little boy in a road traffic collision on the outskirts of Banbridge.

“Just horrendous news my thoughts and prayers are with the family.

“Hold your children tight tonight and please please pray for this family as they experience this unbearable grief.”

There are no further details at this stage.
