Armagh packaging company to create 10 new jobs

JF McKenna, Armagh

A packaging company in Armagh is set to create 10 new jobs as part of a new £4m drive to increase exports.

JF McKenna, which makes packaging for the mushroom, poultry and horticultural industries, is investing over £4m with the help of Invest NI.

The family-owned company, which is based at Cathedral Road in the city, already employs 49 people but hopes to increasing exports so that they account for 75% of its output.

The new staff intake will include four managers – and the company is also investing in new packaging equipment to help it compete overseas.

JF McKenna managing director Brendan McKenna said the investment would enable it to manufacture using a wider range of polymers.

“This will strengthen our ability to compete more effectively, particularly in terms of cost, for business and to grow our market share,” he said.

Invest NI is providing just over £420,000 of assistance.

John Hood, its director of food and tourism, said: “This is a very significant expansion in new plant and marketing activities by a successful company which is now a market leader in packaging for the mushroom, poultry and wider horticultural sectors.”
