A woman who stole over £100 in goods from Home Bargains in Armagh has been handed a conditional discharge for a period of two years.
Katrina Maughan was also ordered to pay the store the full amount of £101.17 in compensation.
The 34-year-old, whose address is given on court papers as Short Street, Newtown-le-Willows, England, pleaded guilty to a single count of theft at Armagh Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry, on Tuesday.
The single charge was read to Maughan, who appeared self-represented, by the court clerk, who asked her if she pleaded guilty or not guilty.
She replied: “Guilty.”
Prosecution outlined that on July 18, 2021, police received a report of theft from Home Bargains in Armagh.
The store provided CCTV footage to police which depicted Maughan and an unknown female entering the store and taking items totalled at £107.17.
She was seen getting into a Volkswagen Transporter.
Police attended Maughan’s address on December 22, and were told that she resided in the Republic of Ireland.
Multiple attempts to contact her by police failed and the goods were not recovered.
District Judge Anne Marshall imposed a conditional discharge of two years and ordered Maughan to pay compensation to Home Bargains.
