Woman accused of sexual communication with a child to face Crown Court

A Co. Armagh woman who is accused of sexual communication with a child under the age of 16 will be tried in the Crown Court.

The woman, who is in her 40s and cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Armagh Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday facing a single charge of sexual communication with a child.

The prosecution oread the charges to the court where it was heard that the defendant is accused of intentionally communicating with a female under the age of 16 for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification.

The offences are alleged to have occurred on October 7 and October 11, of 2018.

Standing in the dock, she made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.

Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.

Defence solicitor Jarlath Fields made no contrary submissions.

The defendant was released on her own bail of £500 to appear at a date to be fixed at Newry Crown Court for arraignment.
