They’ll do it Moy way: Pothole repair crews to start resurfacing one of borough’s worst hit roads

Nighttime closures will be in place at Moy Road, Armagh, with the works to be carried out in phases

One of the borough’s worst pothole-plagued roads is finally to be resurfaced.

Confirmation has come that the Moy Road in Armagh works will be delivered in phases next week.

And, no doubt of great relief to motorists, the works are scheduled to take place at night.

The news comes eight days after the Moy Road was branded “completely unfit” given the large volume of traffic using it daily.

Armagh SDLP councillor Thomas O’Hanlon said the situation had become critical and called for urgent, substantial repairs rather than “patch‑ups, promises or photo‑ops”.

“This is not a minor back road,” he said. “The Moy Road is a vital trunk route, linking east and west, and carrying commuters, heavy vehicles and local traffic every single day. Its current condition is unacceptable.”

Fast forward just over a week and the local councillor has welcomed news that works will now take place.

These are scheduled from Monday, March 30 until Saturday, August 4.

The works will be carried out between 8pm and 6am to limit disruption, with the road to be closed between those hours.

Councillor O’Hanlon said: “These works are very much needed and I want to thank the local DfI Office for brining forward this scheme.”

He added: “The works will take place in phases, with the first phase being between the Drumcairn Road (Abbey Park) and Ballygasoon Road.”

Details of further phases will follow.

Added Councillor O’Hanlon: “The works are taking place during Holy Week and I appreciate many people will be attending Masses / Religious Services around this time.

“I have raised this with DfI Roads Service and they will engage with the contractor on this.”
