Shock at sudden passing of popular Armagh man due to tragic accident at home

A cloud of grief has descended on an entire community following the sudden passing of a popular Armagh man Friday.

Raymond Leonard died suddenly at home as a result of a tragic accident.

His untimely death has caused widespread shock among his friends, family and those who knew – and knew of him!

He has been described as the precious and adored son of Malachy and Irene, dearly loved brother of Joseph, Oonagh, Orla and Martin, much loved brother in law of David and Alastair, cherished and adored uncle of of Maebh, Finn, Devinn, Killian and Harris, treasured nephew, cousin and friend of many.

His sister Oonagh, announcing her brother’s passing on social media, said it was “the hardest post I’ve ever had to write”.

“Devastated to tell you all my amazing brother Raymond Leonard has passed away,” she added. “Funeral details to follow later. Our hearts are broken.”

The outpouring of support, along with condolences and tributes was testament to the depth of feeling for Raymond, who was undoubtedly a character – one of a kind!

His humour was well-known; his online musings brought a smile to faces – they were second-to-none!

One person who knew him over the years described him as an “Armagh icon” who was both “witty and eccentric”.

He was also a selfless individual who was prepared to offer help and advice to those who wanted it. A man who lived life to the full.

Raymond was also one who contributed to many Armagh nostalgia Facebook groups, such was his love for the city he called his home. He shared so many memories; now many will share their memories of Raymond.

One person wrote: “His passion for Armagh was so evident from his fabulous pics!”

Hundreds of tributes have poured in over the last 24 hours and more. Simply put, he was one of the best who had a heart of gold.

While funeral details are yet to be announced, the house at 5 Cregagh Gardens is open to friends and family who wish to pay their respects.

Lovingly remembered by his heartbroken family.
