With Georgian weekend upon us, Armagh city traders are getting in the spirit, with one on Barrack Street particularly embracing the theme.
Scott Griffin, of Borumian Interior Design, is the man behind the Georgian-inspired window display at the Paint Shop.
The Monaghan native, now living outside Killylea, was recently recognised for his creative flair being awarded a top 5 finalist on BBC show ‘House of the Year NI 2024’ hosted by none other than Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen.
Speaking of his experience on the show, Scott says the meaning behind House of the Year is to find “how a person reflects their personality in the house” describing his own interior style as ‘eclectic’ with a love for unique pieces.
Scott says he has always had a passion for interior design but since covid he has “pushed himself forward”, now offering residential and commercial interior design.
Exclusively designing The Paint Shop, Barrack Street’s window front, Scott’s recent display of art can be admired by all this Georgian weekend.
Speaking of the inspiration behind the display, Scott said: “I wanted to keep the Georgian theme but also incorporate doves which represent a sign of peace. With all the conflict around the world, it’s a very dark place at the moment and I want people to take a step back this Christmas and think about the real meaning of Christmas and peace.
“Growing up I always attended Georgian day and it’s a day in the calendar that I really look forward too. I always remember it being one of the coldest days of the year and even if it rains it’s still great fun.
“I wanted to capture the true ambience of Georgian era so we have the mannequin with the traditional Georgian wig, dress and dog.”
A familiar shop front to many, The Paint Shop has been present on Barrack Street for 35 years with proprietor, Pat McSorley, saying it’s an “honour” to have Scott’s creative work displayed in her window.
Jackie Fox of The Paint Shop added: “The Georgian festival brings great community spirit, the streets are lined with people from everywhere browsing the shops and stalls and having a great time. So this year, we wanted to add a special touch to celebrate the weekend”.
