Police probing potential link between house fire and man with knives in Armagh takeaway

Police are investigating a potential link between a house fire in Armagh and an incident whereby a man armed with knives entered a takeaway in the city.

Both incidents occurred around 6.30pm on Tuesday.

Police first received a report of a fire at residential premises in the Rosemount Park area.

Shortly after 6.35pm, officers attended as colleagues from Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service dealt with a house on fire in the area.

No one was inside the property at the time, with the incident being treated as deliberate ignition.

Enquiries are continuing but at this stage, police are investigating a potential link between this and a report of an incident which occurred in the Barrack Street area of the city on Tuesday, October 29.

It was reported to police that a man entered a premises in the area armed with knives. The male was subsequently arrested by police and remains in custody at this time.

Police would continue to appeal for information in relation to both investigations and if anyone has any information that may be able to assist with their enquiries, they should contact police on 101 quoting reference number 1497 29/10/24.
