Meeting on setting up first Comhaltas branch in Armagh

There are over 400 Comhaltas branches around the world but, as of yet, none in Armagh city

A meeting is being held on Wednesday for anyone interested in setting up the first branch of an Irish music, language and culture group in Armagh city.

Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (CCÉ) was founded in 1951 to help preserve Irish culture, customs, music, and language.

Through classes, it gives people the chance to learn the language or an instrument and also runs the Irish music competitions, Fleadh Cheoil.

Musicians compete in a series of qualifying rounds, culminating in the annual All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.

There are over 400 Comhaltas branches around the world but, as of yet, none in Armagh city.

The organisers would particularly welcome anyone with experience in funding, governance and administration of family events.

The meeting, in order to gauge interest, will be held in Cultúrlann Aonach Mhacha, Upper English Street, at 8pm on Wednesday, May 18.

Everyone is welcome.
