Police have arrested a man following reports of a number of assaults in Caledon yesterday evening, Monday May 20.
Detective Sergeant Murphy said: “At approximately 10:20pm, officers received a report that a man had approached a female driver in the Main Street area and banged on the window of the vehicle.
“He asked if her could borrow the vehicle, and when the woman said no, he punched her in the face.
“He was then said to have begun running around the area, knocking over bins and threatening members of the public.
“It was reported that the suspect then entered a house in the Woodview Terrace area of the village, and asked the male occupant, who is aged in his 90s, if he had a car. When the householder said no, the male intruder was reported to have punched him in the face before making off from the property on foot.”
Detective Sergeant Murphy continued: “A short time later, police arrested a man aged in his 20s on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and burglary with intent to steal.
“He remains in police custody at this time, assisting with enquiries.
“Our investigation is continuing, and police are appealing to anyone with any information which might assist us, to get in touch.
