Killeen Hardware celebrating 40th anniversary with deals and supplier demonstrations

The event will be held on Saturday, September 16 and it promises to be fun for the whole family with a bargain or two to be had in the process.

As part of their 40th anniversary celebrations, Killeen Hardware, the independent, family-owned building trade and DIY suppliers, are hosting a demonstration open day which is set to bring new deals, a new shop layout and more!

The store, which is based on the Killycopple Road just outside Armagh, will be holding the event on Saturday, September 16 and it promises to be fun for the whole family with a bargain or two to be had in the process.

The day, which lasts from 8:30am to 1pm, will feature demonstrations and promotions from many of Killeen Hardware’s suppliers and also an opportunity to meet with supplier reps about their products and how they work.

There’ll also be something for the kids too, as Killeen Hardware is running a ‘Mini Tradies’ fancy dress contest, with kids asked to come dressed as a plumber, builder or any tradesman. There will be prizes for all those taking part, with special prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd best costumes.

Everyone will be able to avail of free tea, coffee, sandwiches and traybakes, all kindly provided by Judith from Cuppa Go.

One of the highlights of the event will be the grand unveiling of Killeen Hardware’s new shop floor, which will have a new layout, new signage and new displays!

There will also be an exciting giveaway, with one lucky person walking away with a brand new BBQ!

David Hughes, the owner at Killeen Hardware, says that the purpose of the event is to give back to the community after 40 years of support.

“We’re just thanking the customers and staff and acknowledging the fact that we’re 40 years in business.

“It’s a business-focused event, so we will have offers and deals so the customer can actually get something on the day,” he said.

“For the staff, there’ll be a thank you and a slice of cake after we close up too!”

The anniversary comes amid a busy year for Killeen Hardware, as they are currently revamping their bathroom centre and extending their shed to put in a new set of offices and reception rooms.

They have also recently secured an exciting deal to become an authorised dealer of Milwaukee power tools, one of the best known brands in the country.

Said David: “This is quite a big deal and will give us a lot more access to a vast range of products. It should mean over time that we will become the place to be to get Milwaukee products locally.”

Killeen Hardware’s story began all the way back in 1983. Established by father and son duo Kenneth and Philip Hughes, it continues to be a family affair with Philip’s son David now at the helm.

Stephen, David’s brother is also involved, working on the social media and website alongside a stint in the yard over the summer.

Despite being originally a manufacturer of concrete products, Philip started to sell basic hardware and DIY products and the business grew from there.

Today, Killeen is scarcely recognisable from its humble origins, with steady growth and expansion bringing the store into the 21st century. It now boasts a three-acre site which contains a 15,000 sq ft. store.

A true one-stop shop, Killeen have seven different departments available on-site. Alongside their building and hardware provisions, they also have a doors and floors store, a bathroom centre, a garden machinery centre, a stove and fireplace centre as well as stocking some agricultural products and other products such as workwear and work boots.
