An inquest has been scheduled in the New Year into the death of an Armagh man who died during a desperate attempt to save the life of a young woman in Belfast in 2023.

Patrick Fearon, who had only just moved to Belfast from Armagh the month before he regrettably lost his life, passed away after jumping into the River Lagan to make sure the female had secured herself to a life-ring he had thrown in moments before.

While the woman was ultimately saved by the selfless and heroic actions of the Co Armagh man, Patrick tragically did not make it out alive.

The 30-year-old was removed from the water at approximately 2.30am on May 5, and paramedics worked tirelessly for close to two hours to save his life, but he was pronounced dead at 4am.

Patrick had only recently moved to Belfast, having relocated back to Armagh after a number of years studying and working in Scotland.

A preliminary hearing for the inquest into Patrick’s death was held in Laganside Court, Belfast on Tuesday (October 6).

The Coroner agreed to schedule the two day inquest on February 4 and 5, 2027 and suggested a review on November 25.
