‘Equipment failure’ blamed as several hundred homes and businesses hit by power cut in Armagh

NIE repair teams in city assessing problem

Several hundred homes and businesses have been left without power in Armagh city.

Northern Ireland Electricity is blaming “equipment failure” for the fault.

Properties in the area of Killylea Road, Mullacreevie and surrounding areas are among those affected.

There are unconfirmed reports that a helium balloon tangling on power lines may have led to the cut.

NIE says its repair team is on site in Armagh.

The problem is currently being assessed.

At this stage, power is not expected to be fully restored until around 5pm this evening.
