Delight for Co Armagh recipients in King’s New Year’s Honours

L-R: Seamus McCabe, Dr Stephen Reaney, Art O'Hagan, Roger Wilson, Gerard Gribbon, and David Martin

A well-know Armagh businessman and a Keady GP are among the county’s latest honours recipients.

Art O’Hagan has been awarded an MBE (Member of the British Empire) for his services to the community in Armagh in the King’s New Year’s Honours.

Mr O’Hagan, who owns CPS Property, spoke to Armagh I of his delight at being bestowed such a lofty honour.

“This award is not about me personally but reflects the collective achievements of the many people, businesses, and organisations I have had the privilege of working alongside,” he said.

“Receiving this MBE is a recognition of my service as a lay magistrate for 28 years, my charitable efforts, and my time as Chair of Armagh City Centre Management over the past 16 years.

“It is my hope that this recognition will shine a brighter light on the incredible work being done by local charities, community groups, and the dedicated partners who share a vision for strengthening our community.

“I accept this honour on behalf of them and the wider community of Armagh, with a commitment to continue supporting the growth, resilience, and generosity that define this area.

“Thank you to all who have supported me in these roles over the years; this award belongs as much to them.”

There are a number of other Co Armagh recipients making the list.

ABC Council chief, Roger Wilson, has been awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire) for public service in Northern Ireland. He is one of seven to be honoured in such a way.

There were also MBEs for Gerry Gribbon for services to the community in Armagh; Keady GP Stephen Reaney, for voluntary service to the NI Ambulance Service; David Martin, Chairman of Friends of Brownlow House, for voluntary services to the community in Lurgan and Northern Ireland; and Seamus McCabe founder and Chief Executive of PIPS Hope and Support for his services to the voluntary sector in Newry, Mourne and Down.

David Thompson from Dungannon has also been awarded an MBE for services to education, as was Banbridge woman Sarah Johnston, lately the principal’s personal assistant at Banbridge Academyy for her services to education and the community.
