Cricket may be off but it doesn’t stop teenagers using Mall wicket to socialise during lockdown

Teens lift cordon to gather on wicket area as local hits out: 'They have no regard for public safety or respect for property'

Mall Armagh

Coronavirus might have put an end to the sporting calendar for the time being.

Or, in the case of Armagh Cricket Club, will be impacting on the start of the new season.

But that does not mean that their playing surface on the Mall is not being used.

It is. But for all the wrong reasons.

Signs of sunshine have always drawn people on to the Mall.

But the fact that there is a lockdown should make a difference and for the large part it has.

Apart from people taking a walk for exercise, most are abiding by the rules.

Except for this group of young people who have gathered on the Mall to socialise on Tuesday evening.

What adds insult to injury, however, is that they have lifted the cordon around the wicket area and have decided to locate themselves there.

One local who sent us this picture said it wasn’t on.

He said: “They have no regard for public safety or respect for property.”
