Comedian, comedy writer and Kindle chart-topping author Stephen Large is set to bring his ‘Having it Large’ tour to Armagh.
Stephen who hails from Dundonald, entered the comedy scene 10 years ago after the creation of spoof news page – Dundonald Liberal Army Facebook page – propelled him into the comedy spotlight. Stephen started the page after the ‘bizzare’ amalgamation of Lisburn and Castlereagh councils speered him to create his own page to generate the public reaction.
In his decade of working in the industry, Stephen has written five stage comedies which have sold out venues such as the Grand Opera House and Waterfront Hall. He has also went on to write for television and radio, while his online content for BBC Comedy has amassed over 100 million views!
Also a self-published author, Stephen has three books under his belt – one of which reached the top of Kindle charts.
His previous stand-up tour, Sabotage, produced four sold-out Belfast shows and was due to hit the Market Place stage but was cancelled after the passing of his father. Stephen said:
“We opened the tour for ‘Three’s a Shroud’ in Armagh and it was my first experience gigging in the Market Place and it was a packed out, brilliant crowd.
“I’ve always wanted to go back and in 2024 I was scheduled to return to Market Place but unfortunately due to the passing of my Dad I had to cancel a couple of shows with everything going on and one of them was Armagh.
“So I’m really looking forward to coming back, retuning to Armagh has been a long time coming. Everyone had a great sense of humour the first time so hopefully it’s the same this time around”.
On the build up to his stand-up night in Armagh, Stephen completed his own ‘unbiased study’ making comparisons between Armagh and Dundonald – giving a glimpse of what his Armagh audience could be in for!
The ‘Having it Large’ tour is promoted by NI Comedy, Northern Ireland’s largest promoter of live comedy who are associated with big Irish household names including Colin Geddis, Shane Todd and Diona Doherty. Stephen is set to play the Market Place Theatre stage on Saturday, April 11.
Describing his material as ‘close to the knuckle’, if you’re easily offended this might not be the gig for you – This performance contains strong language and is restricted to 16+.
