A Co Armagh man has been fined and ordered to pay compensation after damaging the window of a house with a rake.
A court heard on Tuesday how Mark McBurney became aggressive when he turned up to his ex-partner’s house, before damaging the window.
The 54-year-old, whose address is listed on court papers as Darkley House, appeared before Armagh Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry, charged with one count of criminal damage.
Prosecution outlined that on September 23, 2024, police received a report that a window had been damaged in Keady.
On arrival, they spoke to the victim who said her ex-partner had arrived at the address and demanded she find his phone, which he claimed was inside.
An argument ensued and the court heard that McBurney became aggressive and lifted a rake, using it to damage a pane of glass.
A defence lawyer told the court that McBurney “stands over” his offer to pay the money, adding the incident appeared “totally out of character”.
District Judge Anne Marshall ordered that £116 in compensation be paid to Arbour Housing Association.
Due to the domestic nature of the case, McBurney was also ordered to pay a fine of £100, alongside the £15 offender levy, within 10 weeks.
