
A Benburb man accused of causing the death of three people by dangerous driving has had his case elevated to the Crown Court.
Patrick Grimley, and his wife Ciera, lost their lives as a result of the collision, which happened on the Gosford Road in Markethill in the early hours of Saturday, November 4, 2023.
Their friend Ciara McElvanna also died as a result of the collision. They had been returning from a surprise 40th birthday party in Dundalk for Patrick.
Four others were seriously injured.
Twenty-year-old Josh McGleenan, from Ashveagh, appeared at Banbridge Magistrates’ Court – sitting in Newry on Thursday for the purpose of a preliminary enquiry – the legal step to potentially send the case to the Crown Court
McGleenan also faces four charges of causing grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving; as well as one count of excess speed; using a mobile phone whilst driving; and being driver unable to properly control his vehicle.
District Judge Eamon King confirmed he was content there was a prima facie case to answer.
An arraignment hearing will now take place at Newry Crown Court on October 9.
The defendant remains on continuing bail with the condition that the defendant does not travel in any vehicle except to go to and from work at times agreed by the police.
