Armagh retailer plans free coffee day to help Team Emily goal of life-changing surgery

O'Kane's Superstore staff coming into work on day off to help out with special fundraiser

They say nothing comes for free in this life but in that they are wrong!

For an Armagh retailer is planning to give away free coffee this Friday.

In exchange, customers at O’Kane’s Superstore are being urged to make a small donations towards the ongoing fundraising campaign known as ‘Team Emily’.

It is the latest in a series of community efforts to help raise money to send little Emily Toal to the United States for a life-changing operation.

Emily was born in May with TAR Syndrome, which means she is missing her radius bone in both forearms. Therefore, she has clubbed hands, a curved ulna bone in her forearms and a low platelet count.

Team Emily was set up to raise money for an operation which will improve mobility, strength and growth and give her as close to normal hand and wrist function as possible.

The free coffee day at O’Kane’s Superstore is another fundraiser to take Team Emily closer to that goal.

It will take place this Friday, November 30, and all proceeds from Bro coffee and tea will be in aid of Team Emily.

Ruairi O’Kane said they wanted as many people as possible to come along and show their support.

He told Armagh I : “We would ask our customers that instead of paying for their coffee at the till they make a discretionary donation to Team Emily while in the store.

“This is an absolutely brilliant local cause that we at O’Kane’s are very proud to be able to contribute towards.

“Our staff will be wearing T-shirts from Team Emily and there will be a few donation buckets around the shop.

“There will be a buzz around the store and we would like to ask you all to come down and enjoy your coffee and the craic.

“There will also be activities running throughout the day and we will be raffling a bicycle later that day.

“Obviously all proceeds will be going to Team Emily.

“A few of our staff who are off on Friday have said they will come in and help as much as they can as this is very much a local community event which we feel very strongly about.”

The event takes place this Friday, November 30 – please come along and show your support!

Elsewhere on Friday night, between 7-10pm,  Newlook in Armagh is hosting a Ladies Night in aid of Team Emily – and everyone is welcome. There will be goodie bags for the first 30 people, with light refreshments, a make-up demo, clothes modelling and a raffle on the night in aid of Team Emily.
