The Housing Executive welcomed over 200 attendees to its largest ever annual Contractor Health & Safety Awareness event at the Dunsilly Hotel, Antrim on 26
March 2026.

Construction and maintenance partners from across Northern Ireland gathered to hear from leading industry experts and take part in discussions aimed at enhancing
safety standards across all areas of work.

Among them were Mamo Building Services, who in February of this year, lost much of their main commercial premises in Milford in a fire that was believed to have been started deliberately.

Despite substantial damage, the contractor managed to continue its operations almost immediately.

Mamo Building Services.

Highly commended runners-up were Laura McKee from CFM and Sean Watters from Mascott.

Presenting the awards Paul Isherwood, Director of Asset Management, emphasised the organisation’s continued focus on ensuring the highest standards across all
contracts.

He said: “Our Health and Safety Award winners have demonstrated impressive dedication to protecting their workforce, our tenants and staff.

“As a large landlord with a maintenance and repair budget of £250 million per annum, I am delighted to be working with organisations that prioritise a positive health and safety culture among contractors and their staff.”

A central theme of the day was the ongoing commitment to improving safety awareness among contractors and colleagues, particularly around risks that may affect tenants or maintenance teams working in and around Housing Executive homes.

The event also reinforced the importance of mental wellbeing and looking out for one another in the workplace.

The safe management of lithium-ion batteries, gas safety, working safely in tenants’ homes, behavioural safety, and the importance of mental health within the
construction sector were just some of the topics covered.

Attendees also heard from representatives of Air Ambulance NI and the Lighthouse Charity, who shared insights into their vital work supporting people across Northern
Ireland.

As part of the event, Housing Executive staff held a ballot and raised an amazing £975 for their charity partner, Air Ambulance NI.
