10.15AM UPDATE: Since publication, the Met Office have cancelled their weather warning for snow.

While Christmas may have been one of the balmiest on record, New Year’s Day appears to be a return to temperatures akin to this time of year.

And with it will come snow; the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning to suggest as much, with all of Northern Ireland affected.

The Met Office are warning of “heavy and persistent” snowfall, with a small chance some rural communities will be cut off – most likely those on higher ground.

Public transport is also likely to be affected and this will be further exacerbated by the fact it’s a limited service. Translink are running their ‘Sunday Service’ timetable.

Those of you staying tucked up at home should have your first chance of the year – straight off the bat – to build your own snowman.

This particular weather alert is in place from 7am on New Year’s Day right through until midnight.

New Year’s Eve also sees a weather warning for wind, however, large parts of Co Armagh will likely avoid the gusts with the northern and eastern counties impacted.

There is expected to be further snow in Co Armagh at the weekend – Sunday into Monday – but this will not be to the level expected on New Year’s Day.

Temperatures are set to plummet to –6 degrees overnight on Wednesday with highest daytime temperatures of five degrees.
