Acknowledgement for the late Gerard Hughes (Madden)

Hughes, Gerard.

We the family of the late Gerard Hughes (Madden) wish to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to all those who sympathised with us during our recent bereavement. To our wonderful family, friends, and kind neighbours whose help was invaluable.

To all those who attended the wake and funeral, brought mass and sympathy cards, telephoned, messaged, or posted online their condolences and sent donations in lieu of Southern Area Hospice, we assure you these were greatly appreciated. We thank especially those who travelled a distance to share in our grief.

Thanks to the many individuals and businesses who brought gifts of food to the wake and those who offered floral tributes. A special thanks to Madden Community Centre for the provision of chairs and crockery and to the Madden Ladies Committee for the post burial refreshments.

No words seem adequate to express our gratitude to all those who cared for Gerard during his illness especially the staff of the Mandeville Unit Craigavon, the Emergency Department Craigavon, the Community teams of Armagh District Nursing Team and the Doctors and staff of the Friary Surgery. To all the staff at Southern Area Hospice, we the family are eternally grateful for the care and compassion given to Gerard, you ensured that his end-of-life journey was one of comfort and dignity.

We thank the priests of Keady Parish and in a special way Cannon O’Neill who administered the last rites of the Church to Gerard and who celebrated a very personal funeral mass. Thanks to the sacristan who prepared the church and to Catherine and Patricia whose music greatly enhanced the funeral mass.

A special thanks to the many friends and neighbours within the Madden Community who took the time to help prepare Gerard’s final resting place.

Our sincere thanks to Bridget Mone Funeral Directors for the sensitive and respectful way she carried out the funeral arrangements. Nothing was too much trouble and we thank her for the support she gave to all the family.
It is impossible to thank everyone personally, but we want anyone who offered their help, support, or even a kind word to know that it was greatly appreciated.

Gerard’s month mind mass will be held in St. Joseph’s Church Madden on Sunday 16th March at 9.00am.

Lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife Bernie, sons Anthony and Damien, daughters Pamela, Caroline and Lorraine, daughter-in-law Brenda, sons-in-law Mark and Jamie and his beloved grandchildren.
