‘Exceptional’ cattle prices at Newtownhamilton

CATTLE prices were exceptionally firm at Newtownhamilton on Saturday (June 8).

HEIFERS

The 100 store heifers sold in a firmer demand with good quality lightweights from £200 to £237 per 100 kilos with a top of £261 for 340k at £600.  Middleweight heifers sold to £241 for 350k at £845, followed by £229 for 350k at £800.  Main demand from £185 to £217 per 100 kilos Angus heifers to £199 for 400k at £795.  Forward heifers sold from £190 to £215 for 440k at £945.

The 30 lots of sucklers sold in an excellent demand to £1480 for a char cow and bull calf for a Keady farmer.  A Derrynoose farmer received £1390 for a Char cow and bull calf.  Several more from £850 to £1020.  In-calf heifers to £900.
