Scarva set for superb Sunday sounds

The beautiful village of Scarva will be echoing to the delightful sounds of Rathfriland Silver Band this Easter Sunday as the ever-popular concert band season gets under way once more

The concert season, which runs each Sunday from 3 – 4pm commencing on 27 March until 25 September, features the finest in local concert bands performing at the magnificent Victorian bandstand on Scarva Green which is renowned for its superb award winning floral displays.

The concerts are organised by the South West Down Bands Association and supported by Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon Borough Council. Bands for Easter Sunday and April are:

Sunday 27 March                    Rathfriland Silver Band

Sunday 7 April                       Castlewellan Accordion Orchestra

Sunday 14 April                     Banbridge Accordion Orchestra

Sunday 21 April                     St. Mark’s Silver Band

Sunday 28 April                     Banbridge Silver Band

As well as enjoying the marvellous music why not treat yourself with a visit to the adjoining Scarva Visitor Centre and Tearooms, famous for their delicious homemade cakes, teas and coffee.

Take in the natural beauty of the canal and gardens with a stroll or cycle along the Newry Canal Towpath enjoying the abundance of plant and wildlife, which make it a haven for bird lovers, Nearby Scarva Park with its children’s play area is always a big hit with families.
