A County Tyrone horse trainer and former showjumper has appeared in court in relation to a number of charges arising from an alleged domestic violence incident last month.

Harvey Smith (51) from Corkill Road, Seskinore is accused of three counts of assaulting a woman as well as damaging the rear bumper of her car, with these matters aggravated by reason of involving domestic abuse

It is further alleged Smith was in possession of a plank of wood as an offensive weapon and caused unnecessary suffering to a dog in the same incident which allegedly occurred on August 21.

A police officer aware of the facts of the case told Omagh Magistrates’ Court the charges could be connected.

Smith, dressed in a light grey suit spoke only to confirm his identity and that he understood the charges against him.

No details surrounding the circumstances of the alleged incident were disclosed during the short heraing.

District Judge Bernie Kelly remanded Smith on continuing bail to return to court next month.

The defence submitted an application for Legal Aid which Judge Kelly was unable to process as the full details of Smith’s financial circumstances had not been verified, however she agreed to revisit this on the next occasion.
